In reply to your two letters No. 379/29/109 dated the 23rd November and 27th December, 1905, respectively, I have the honour to inform you that this Government do not propose to take over the War Department Property in Spring Gardens at a valuation.

2. With regard to the disposal otherwise of this property, I am directed to call your attention to the letter addressed on the 24th October, 1859, to the Colonial Secretary by Colonel Foley, Military Secretary to the Major-General then commanding the Military Forces in South China, and to Fr. Mercer's reply, dated the 27th October, 1859, in accordance with which a Crown Rent of £150 per annum will be reimposed in the event of Inland Lot No. 427, at present held by the War Department for the balance of the term of 999 years from the 29th July, 1855, ceasing to be the property of that Department.
